An incident in which an elevator plunged three storeys at a business in Hunter Lane in Durban left one person dead and another critically injured.

ER24 Spokesperson Russel Meiring said ER24 paramedics, along with provincial services, arrived on scene and were ushered into the building were they found a number of people crowded around the entrance of the elevator.

Mering added that on assessment, paramedics found the lifeless body of a male and his critically injured colleague.

He also said that paramedics climbed into the elevator and assessed both patients. Unfortunately, one of the patients had already succumbed to his multiple fatal injuries.

“The second patient, a male, was found in a critical condition. Paramedics and rescue services treated the patient for his injuries and provided him with advanced life support. Once freed from the elevator, he was transported to Addignton Hospital for urgent medical treatment.” Meiring added.

The exact details to the cause of the accident will remain the subject of a police investigation.
