Western Cape Metro Police together with the Gang and Drug task Team conducted several operations over the past week of which 61 arrests were made.

A Mongrel gang member was arrested in Parow and three other suspects were arrested for possession of and dealing in dagga.

Overall 22 additional suspects were arrested for drug-related offences as well as 33 drunk drivers.

Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security JP Smith said the operation led to the arrest of the 34 year old member of Mongrels gang in possession of dagga, tik and heroin. Some of which he had hidden in his rectum hoping that it could not be found.

Smith added that this is unfortunately another example of the gangster who continues to operate in spite of previous arrests and this is always frustrating for our staff to have to re arrest people who have been previously arrested.

“It’s essential that the Criminal Justice system ensures that these people stay locked up so that we don’t have to see them dealing in drugs in our streets continuously.” Smith said.
