The Democratic Alliance has raised its concerns over the shortage of back-up generators at hospitals countrywide.

This follows Minister of Health Dr Aaron Motsoaledi admitting to a parliamentary question that nine generators have not been installed at hospitals and clinics in the Western Cape.

DA MP of Health Wilmot James said we have a problem in a significant number of our provinces in particular Mpumalanga, Free State and Gauteng and the Eastern Cape.

“Therefore I have asked for a meeting with the minister to discuss this matter with him, to make sure that our hospitals are electricity secured because we cannot have a health facility especially the surgery and we have other emergency needs and basic equipment that has to be supplied all times with energy” James added.
