The first Independent Health Complaints Committee will soon be established in the Western Cape.

In the past financial year the department of health in the province has had 86% of cases of complaints resolved within 25 days.

The department says the committee will revolutionise the way it deals with complaints regarding amongst other things dissatisfaction with health facilities.

Ministerial Spokesperson Colleen Smart said it’s crucial that this committee will be independent of the department and will have the power to conduct investigations by visiting our facilities with the aim of gathering more information about particular complaints.

Smart added that this legislation is crucial in ensuring that the quality of care in our facilities and that the complaints are escalated to this level are dealt with decisively.
