Concerns have been raised regarding the increase in people faking their qualifications and selling qualification documents.

Last year Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande said qualifications fraud poses a danger to the credibility of the country’s education system.

CEO of South Africa’s Qualification Authority Joe Samuels said they are developing internal capacity to identify fraudulent foreign qualifications more effectively.

Samuels said over the last few months we have had a couple of prominent people that have been on the news for qualification fraud that is why people think it is prevalent.

“What we have been finding over the last number of years that we have been stricter on this is that on average it is not a huge problem however I think we have a number of high profile cases and that is making the news” Samuels added.
