A group of 800 pupils have
marched on a Durban police station to demand the release of some of their
schoolmates who had been arrested and charged with involvement in a vigilante
killing last month.
Major Thulani Zwane said the
pupils were complaining that the arrested suspects, aged between 18 and 20
years, would miss their exams this month.
It is alleged that last month
three suspects went into the school and robbed learners of their belongings.
Zwane added that the learners started
to assault the three suspects as a result, they were taken to a local clinic
with severe injuries and one of the suspect died instantly.
He further said that the five
suspects were arrested on 11 June 2015 by the detectives for their alleged
involvement in assaulting three men who were committing a crime at the school.
A case of murder as well as attempted murder was opened at the Inanda police station for further investigations.
