The Democratic Alliance is calling for a briefing on the ongoing shortage of essential medicines in the public and private healthcare sector.

This as the Department of Health on Monday confirmed that the country is experiencing a shortage of about 155 product lines, including antibiotics, cardiovascular medicines, and central nervous system medicines amongst others.

DA’s Dr Heinrich Volmink said they are very concerned about the medical stock out that are so pervasive at the moment. This is because the situation has resulted in some essential medicines not being available to the public.

“While we welcome the interventions on second by the Minister of Health Aaron Motsoaledi in this regard, we would urge him to act decisively so that we can urgently get medication to those who needs it most.” Volmink added.
