Three arrested for selling an ID to a Mozambican national

Loyiso Langeni 05 June 2015

A Home Affairs official and two other people have been arrested in Durban for allegedly selling an Identity Document to a Mozambican national.

It is alleged that the official and two other sold a fake ID to the Mozambican national who then reported the matter and an investigation ensued.

The three were arrested this morning by the Hawks and the Department of Home Affairs Counter Corruption Unit.

Minister Malusi Gigaba said they don’t take anything for granted. They don’t think that there will not be an official who tries to engage in corruption.

“We think that we need to continue with this unit that we have and to continue modernising the department, so that the entire process that we implement both at the level of application as well as at the level of receipt and processing of the application are digitised, so that we can have an electronic record of all the goings in the department which would help in combatting crime and corruption.” Gigaba added.
