The Right2Know campaign has
welcomed the release of the Alternative Information Development Centre report
into the Lonmin, Marikana massacre.
R2K says the research done by
the AIDC reveals that Lonmin attempted to hide profits of at least R400 million
per year between 1999 and 2012 in Bermuda .
R2K’s Gauteng Coordinator Dale
McKinley said it showed the collusion of the private capital in this case with
government to try to avoid responsibilities towards workers and then try to
make it appear as though cannot afford the wage increases.
“Besides the massacre itself,
this kind of information is very important for people to know so that people
and corporations like Lonmin can be held accountable and we can have the proper
regulations in place to make sure that they pay the taxes as well as pay
workers a decent wage.” McKinley added.
