The National Sea Rescue Institute in Koegelbaai rescued 21 people who were trapped by incoming tide on an island between Gordons Bay and Pringle Bay.

NSRI Spokesperson Criag Lambinon said the group were doing sightseeing but they were caught in the high tide.

NSRI Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said on arrival on scene it was found that a rescue boat could not get onto the rocks to get them off.

Lambinon said a helicopter was called in and the 20 people who were believed to be on the island were rescued five people at a time using a short haul rescue technique.

“After the helicopter had left the scene it was determined that another one person was left behind and search and rescue went in and got him out resulting in 21 people being rescued” Lambinon added.
