An accident this morning on the N11outside Newcastle KwaZulu Natal left one person dead.

It is believed that a truck collided with another vehicle after the truck driver lost control of his vehicle.

ER24 Spokesperson Russel Meiring said when ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene; they found a light motor vehicle with a trailer blocking one section of the road. A taxi which was on the trailer laid crushed on the side of the road, while a truck lay on its side well alight.

Meiring said fire services battled the blaze while paramedics treated the truck driver who sustained only minor injuries. Once the blaze had been extinguished paramedics discovered that a passenger in the truck had been burned to death.

No one from the light motor vehicle has sustained any injuries.

The injured truck driver was transported to Madadeni hospital for further observation. The exact details to the cause of the accident will remain the subject of a police investigation.
