The African National Congress in the Western Cape has raised its concern regarding overcrowding, learner transport issues and learner school placement as some of the problems on the first day of the 2015 academic year.

ANC in the province visited various schools in the province on Wednesday to see the readiness of schools including the Protea Primary School in Napier.

ANC’s Theo Oliver said in Grabouw there were still learners who were not placed in schools on Wednesday.

Oliver said one of the major issues is the class ratio of 65 and in some schools 48 learners in one class which shows there is lack of planning in terms of the growth of our learners down the years.

“Also the issue of transport the learners are still stranded particularly in the rural areas where farms are kids were still stranded due to the bus issues in their area” Oliver added.
