The Democratic Nursing Organization
in Limpopo said it is
concerned by people spreading wrongfully information of mismanagement of patients
by nurses at Sekororo hospital.
It is alleged that the community member,
claiming to be a community leader, caused alarm by phoning into a radio
programme to say he was at the hospital where nurses were abusing and
mismanaging patients and that nurses were not attending to patients.
DENOSA Provincial Secretary Kwena Manamela
said they find this seriously concerning, especially when conflict between
nurses and patients is being instigated by people who claim to be community leaders.
Manamela added that they are
increasingly worried by the manner in which stories are made up and get
supported by the department without proper facts.
“We feel and think that it is very
correct that members of the community raise their concerns through correct
channels without throwing damaging allegations in the public that paint the
profession in a very bad light.” Manamela said.
He concluded by saying that they
believe it will be very correct for the department to comment in a manner that
will build the moral of the workers and the nurses in particular.
