The Western Cape Department of Education says today has been a smooth start to the 2015 academic year with minor issues.

In a statement the department says in the coming days schools will report to districts any places available due to enrolled learners not arriving at their particular school, and will be on stand-by to provide assistance.

MEC Debbie Schafer today visited Blue Downs Primary School in Blue Downs to oversee the start of the school year.

Ministerial Spokesperson Jessica Shelver said this morning we were pleased to see how organised the school management team of blue downs primary school was.

Shelver said one would expect some form of delay in the morning with the enrolment of new learners however all learners including the grade 1’s were in the classrooms by eight o clock seated and learning.

Shelver said this is the kind of leadership we need to see more of in our schools.

“As far as most of the preparations were completed well before the end of last year we are pleased that so far all reports indicate that we have had a smooth start of the 2015 academic year” Shelver added.
