Northern Cape police arrested six suspects aged between 27 and 50-years for allegedly stealing three diamonds at a mine in Prieska.

Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the suspects entered the mine after they approached the driver of a mining dump truck who was on his routine trips to offload and pointed a gun on him.

Mulaudzi said the suspects allegedly involved in the diamond heist mine were a group of plus minus 20 to 25 people who went inside the mine and managed to steal about three diamonds with the value of which has not yet been determined.

“The members from the mine managed to arrest one person. Subsequent investigations by the Hawks lead to the arrest of the other five which made the number of arrests to total six suspects” Mulaudzi added.

Police are still searching for the diamonds and the suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
