An accident this morning on the N2 near Abalone left one person dead.

This is after a driver lost control of his vehicle and drove the car into a canal containing toxic water.

ER24 Spokesperson Pieter Rossouw says the ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene and by that time the driver had already sustained injuries unfortunately.

“We were assisted by the rescue team that was dispatched also to assist in extricating the driver from the vehicle using special equipment because the water in the canal was too toxic to just enter without the gear on” Rossouw added.

The exact details to the cause of the accident will remain the subject of a police investigation.
