The Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works together with the Bergrivier Municipality has started the rehabilitation of the R399 between Piketberg and Velddrif.

The project was started early this month and is expected to be completed in May 2017.

The original road was constructed in the 1950’s and has received various maintenance interventions.

The Departments Al-Ameen Kafaar said the project value is more than R35 Million and it is going to stretch from the main road Piketberg to Velddrift.

Kafaar said in essence what is going to be done is that the road is going to be widened and the surfaces of the existing gravel shoulder will also be tied.

“Then there is also going to be some projects to address the problems caused by moles because moles dig holes under the roads which cause pot holes as well as resurfacing of the road Kafaar added.
