Western Cape MEC of Community Safety Dan Plato has condemned the recent incidents of vigilante killings in Philipi.

A body was discovered necklaced on Monday at the Marikana squatter camp and last week a 16-year-old boy died after he was stoned to death and set alight.

In a statement MEC Plato said vigilantism will not be tolerated.

Ministerial Spokesperson Ewald Botha said people in the province should know that vigilantism is a crime and won’t be tolerated by law enforcement agencies.

Botha added that Mr Plato calls on all community member, various non governmental organisations across the province as well as public servants working in our communities regardless of department we as the government make it our duty to alert everyone about this before it escalates to serious crimes.
