The African National Congress
expressed sadness at the passing of former police commissioner Jackie Selebi.
Selebi died at the age of
64-years-old after suffering from kidney failure. ANC’s Keith Khoza said Selebi has made a
great contribution to the African National Congress.
Khoza said we have been with him for
a very long time in the ANC, he has served the NEC of the ANC for 23 years, he
has lead the youth section of the ANC and he has made a huge contribution in
the organisation. Not only did he make a contribution to the liberation of South
Africa but even post 1994
he served in parliament under Nelson Mandela.
In 2012 Jackie Selebi was released on medical parole after he was sentenced to 15 years in prison for taking bribes from convicted drug dealer Glen Agliotti.
Khoza said Selebi was a giant and a
leader of our people.
“This is a indication of a life
lived in service of our people, the ideals in which he lived the ANC will pursue
and we believe his legacy will guide many generations to come to ensure that
South Africa becomes a true liberated country” Khoza added.
