A man drowns in Knysna

he National Sea Rescue Institute in Knysna on Saturday responded to a drowning incident whereby a man believed to be in his early 40s drowned.

NSRI Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said it is alleged that rough sea conditions and rip currents may have contributed to the man getting into difficulty in the surf.

Lambinon added that on arrival on scene it was found that bystanders had rescued the man from the water. They had initiated bystanders CPR on the scene which NSRI medics took over.

He also said that the NSRI station doctor arrived on the scene, despite CPR efforts the man was declared deceased on the scene.

"The body of the deceased man was handed over to the care of th Forensic Pathology Services and family are being assisted by police trauma counsellors." Lambinon added

 Police have opened an inquest docket.
