The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union has called for peaceful protest in Malamulele.

The residents want to be separated from the Thulamela municipality and are demanding their own municipality.

Pupils have also been barred from attending school in the past week.

Popcru’s Hangwani Mashao said residents need to be patient while government does its work regarding this matter.

Mashao added that the Constitution of the country provides for the right to demonstration and protests.

He emphasised that it also protects the rights of those that might be affected by the very same demonstrations and protests. Therefore we calling for responsible demonstration because over the past few days we have had instances where law enforcement officers have been injured and instances where ambulances that were picking up the patients were attacked.

“We believe that in itself does not show responsibility on the part of those that organised the protests,” Mashao said.
