Cosatu condemns alleged City Prejudice towards Minstrel Parade

Cosatu has shown a vote of no confidence towards the Mayor of Cape Town, saying that the mayor shows no interest in the culture of the minstrels.

This comes after the Mayor and the City of Cape Town changed the dates of the Minstrels Festivals.

Cosatu has also pointed out that the fund invested in minstrels is not the same compared to other similar Cape Town Events.

Cosatu Spokesperson Tony Ehrenreich said The City of Cape Town Council and the Mayor are discriminating against the Minstrel Parade by not providing adequate support for the event to take place.

This lack of adequate support has led to the postponement of the minstrel parade in Cape Town.

The City not providing adequate support for the logistics is endangering the participants and spectators, and is an attempt to sabotage the successful hosting of the event.

Cosatu further calls on the Public Protector to investigate the aspersions cast by the Mayor, who regularly favours the wealthier areas and events, whilst neglecting the interest of the people of the Cape Flats.
