Congress of South African Trade Unions in the Western Cape said the education results of the province shows the neglect of poorer schools and it is concerned about the reduction in the pass levels in the province.

Cosutu Provincial Secretary Tony Ehrenreich said the department should understand that its responsibility is the real public schools, which are the schools on the Cape Flats and the rural areas.

He added that this is clearly mainly in working class schools because the wealthiest schools that maintained the levels of passes they had much better facility.

“The Western Cape Education Department is letting down the people of the Western Cape and letting down working families. We call for an investigation into the WCED because the incompetence is threatening the future of many young people from the Cape Flats.” Ehrenreich said.
