The Mitchell’s Plain Policing Forum has raised its concern regarding reports of the low conviction rate for gang-related murders in the Western Cape.

It has been reported that between 2011 and 2013 there were 950 reported gang related murders in the province with a 4 percent conviction rate.

Mitchell’s Plain CPF’s Abie Isaacs said they want to applaud the urgencies for the successfully arrests.

"As we have been saying all the time as the Policing Forum we do acknowledge and do understand the independence of judiciary but we still have a concern in terms of low conviction specifically gang related.” Issacs added.

On Tuesday, the Democratic Alliance called for the better use of the Asset Forfeiture Unit to fight gang-related crime.
