The National Department of Health is rated
the lowest spender on its HIV/AIDS drug treatment in the world.
This follows after a successful drug tender
was awarded to Aspen Pharmacare.
The tender is set to roll out for the next
three years and government has promised to make the drug treatment available in
all health care facilities across the country.
Ministerial Spokesperson Joe Maila says
“our tender is one of the cheapest in the world, we have one of the biggest ARV
treatments in South Africa, and we used our power and the economy of skill to
make sure we drop the price of ARV, so that we must be able to provide a
treatment to many people in the country.”
