The National Sea Rescue Institute in Melkbossstrand attended to an incident whereby it was reported that two females who were cousins were caught in rip current while swimming in the surf.

One of the women managed to swim to shore and called for help.

NSRI Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said an NSRI Melkbossstrand swimmer happened to be in the area at the time when the woman was screaming for help.

Lambinon said the NSRI swimmer found the screaming women and told him that her cousin was being swept out to sea. He launched into the water and was assisted by a surfer and managed to bring the 19-year-old female from Bloemfontein out of the water safely.

Meanwhile in another incident a 59-year-old woman went missing after going for a walk in Jeffrey’s Bay.

The woman was visiting family from Uitenhage when she wandered off and was no where to be seen.

NSRI Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said the NSRI in Jeffery’s Bay launched a search and found the women 20 minutes into the search wandering on the beach.

Lambinon said she was found to be disorientated and dehydrated but not harmed.
