The Democratic Alliance has
expressed concern regarding the delay of the start of operation of the KwaZulu
Natal Forensic Chemical Laboratory.
According to the DA the lab
was due to be operational on the 1st of January 2014 but was then postponed
until the 1st of May 2015.
DA MP of Health Wilmot James
said the lab is essential in dealing with the delivery of drunk driving blood
alcohol results to the courts.
James said the opening of the
KZN lab is a very important chapter in the saga to deal efficiently with the
delivery of drunk-driving blood alcohol results to the courts so that offenders
can be prosecuted swiftly and successfully.
James said swift prosecutions and
severe sentencing are essential for justice to be done.
James said The KZN lab will
take responsibility for its own province and for the Eastern Cape.
“We urging the Minster to make
these two interventions in order to speed up this process James added.
