The Democratic Alliance has expressed concern regarding the delay of the start of operation of the KwaZulu Natal Forensic Chemical Laboratory.

According to the DA the lab was due to be operational on the 1st of January 2014 but was then postponed until the 1st of May 2015.

DA MP of Health Wilmot James said the lab is essential in dealing with the delivery of drunk driving blood alcohol results to the courts.

James said the opening of the KZN lab is a very important chapter in the saga to deal efficiently with the delivery of drunk-driving blood alcohol results to the courts so that offenders can be prosecuted swiftly and successfully.

James said swift prosecutions and severe sentencing are essential for justice to be done.

James said The KZN lab will take responsibility for its own province and for the Eastern Cape.

“We urging the Minster to make these two interventions in order to speed up this process James added.
