A 44-year-old man from Johannesburg died on Saturday afternoon following a drowning incident at Buffels Bay, and two others were rescued.

National Sea Rescue Institute Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said the three were swept out to sea by strong rip currents.

Lambinon said on arrival on scene it was found that three men had been rescued from the water. Bystanders were conducting CPR on one man and paramedics took over. Tragically despite extensive efforts of CPR he was declared deceased on the scene.

“The other two men a 25 and 30-year-old both from Mitchell’s Plain suffered minor injuries.  The 30-year-old went to hospital for near drowning symptoms.  The 25-year-old was released requiring no further medical assistance” Lambinon added.
