Western Cape MEC of Transport and Public Works Donald Grant said there was a six percent decrease in the number of road deaths in the province over the festive season.

At the start of this year already 13 deaths had been reported on the province’s roads.

MEC Grant in a statement said law enforcement efforts continue to be targeted as the main killers on our roads which are speeding, alcohol and road use, distracted driving and fatigue.

Ministerial Spokesperson Siphesihle Dube said the low deaths are down 121 this year from 129 in 2013.

MEC Grant noted that this is still very high and unacceptable so, all the confidents are on our campaign that are on-going will continue to bring this number lower and lower down.
