Western Cape Traffic Authorities stomp down on road offenders

Western Cape Traffic Authorities over the weekend conducted 24 roadblocks of which 2 661 vehicles were stopped and checked.

1 771 drivers were tested for alcohol and 27 drunken drivers were arrested. 

The highest alcohol reading was recorded in the Mossel Bay.

Provincial Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said the total amounts of fines that we issued was R450 950 and we also checked the speed of 14 347 vehicles of which we prosecuted 980 drivers for exceeding the speed limit.

Africa said the highest speed recorded in the Western Cape Province was 238kmph in a 120 zone on the N1 between Paarl and Brackenfell.
 
Africa said 129 in a 100 zone on the N2 near Caledon then on the N2 near Knysna a 100kmph in an 80 zone.

Meanwhile also during the roadblocks one person was arrested in Brackenfell for being in possession of false documentation.

Africa said two taxis were impounded and one driver was arrested for reckless and negligent driving.

Africa said nine fatalities were recorded on the province roads over the weekend. Provincial Traffic

Chief Kenny Africa said there was one passenger who died in a motor vehicle accident in Harare in the metro, another pedestrian died in observatory.

Africa said then we had one pedestrian killed in a motor vehicle accident in De Doorns.

Africa said one in Klapmuts and another one in Paarl and also one pedestrian who died in Robertson road and one on Worcester road.

"Yesterday on the N1 outside Kuilsriver a driver and a passenger died in a motor vehicle accident which brings the weekend total fatalities to stand on nine for the weekend Africa added.
